Pupil Premium The pupil premium is additional funding for schools to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. Every school receives a fixed amount of money per pupil for all pupils meeting certain criteria. It is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. These include pupils who are entitled to free school meals (FSM), those looked after by the local authority for at least 6 months, those who have been eligible for free school meals, at any given point, within the last 6 years and children of armed service personnel. The intended effect of this funding is to accelerate progress and raise attainment. Many eligible children will not need additional support. The school adopts the same approach with eligible children as with any other child found to be at risk of falling behind. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. However, they will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils. Bow Community Primary School is determined that all pupils are given the best possible chance to achieve their full potential through the highest standards of Quality First Teaching, focussed support, curriculum enrichment and pastoral care. We believe the additional provision delivered through the Pupil Premium funding should be available to all pupils within school, who we know to be disadvantaged and vulnerable, irrespective of whether they are eligible for the funding. Indeed, it should be noted, that many of the pupils identified as requiring additional levels of support are not necessarily those who fulfil the FSM eligibility criteria. Pupil Premium Strategy Statement The Pupil Premium Strategy Statement sets out in detail how Pupil Premium money will be spent for this academic year. It takes account of progress of Pupil Premium children compared to that of their peers and states how they will be supported in making progress. |
