Wherever possible, the school will remain open during severe weather but our primary consideration is the safety of the children and staff. Heavy snowfall, icy roads or stormy weather may mean that the school will need to close.
In the event of severe weather, the school will take steps to determine the extent of the risk. If the situation seems to be deteriorating causing potential problems for children needing to travel, then steps will be taken to close the school. Bus companies may also decide to collect children early, if they feel the roads are not safe to travel on at the usual time.
In the event of it being necessary to close the school, every attempt will be made to notify parents via the school web site, email, social media and phone call, if necessary. Please ensure that school holds a current mobile phone number for emergency contacts.
Closure during the school day due to severe weather
If we were to close the school during the school day, we will inform you in the following ways:
A message will appear on the school’s website (www.bowcps.devon.sch.uk) and Facebook account.
An email will be sent to all parents, whose details we have and that are up to date.
If necessary, a phone call home will be made to children’s contact list.
The school admin team will ensure that they check that there is someone at home (or a neighbour or friend) to receive the children who are sent home early.
Closure before the start of the school day due to severe weather
If we were to close the school before school starts we will inform you in the following ways:
A message will appear on the school’s website (www.bowcps.devon.sch.uk) and Facebook account by 7:30 am each day.
An email will be sent to all parents, whose details we have and that are up to date, by or shortly after 7.30am.
Our priority is to keep all pupils and staff calm and safe.
We ask that you please ensure that you have plans in place to collect your children, if you receive a message informing you that the school needs to close early. Staff need to be able to travel home safely and can only do so once all pupils have been collected.
If there is any likelihood of severe weather, and you are not going to be at home, please ensure that the school knows who you wish them to contact should the children need to go home early. If you have any concerns please ring the school office for advice.
